There is no sure-fire 100% prevention method of preventing either vandalism or theft.
We view this like having skunks in your backyard. If you don't want the stink, make the environment not to their liking. They will find someone else's yard to live in.
And, so it is with vandals or thieves. If your building, parking lot and grounds are inhospitable for them, they will seek other easier pickings. Keep the outside well lit at night. A low-level "background" light is suitable - with high-intensity motion controlled lighting activated when someone enters the perimeter zone. Not only is this startling to the intruder, but it saves on your utility bill because you are not lit up like a football field all night.
Consider an Alarm System, such as provided by a national service, such as ADT, Brinks, etc. While they won't prevent a break-in, they will shorten the time the intruders have to do their work. Many systems have built-in software that will auto-arm and de-arm at specific times and/or that may be operated from any telephone in the world.
A great place to start is at your local police or sheriffs department's office. Telephone them to find the best location and contact name. They will be most helpful to you and appreciative of your concerns.
A public library may have some valuable information. Be aware that technological changes may make older books unusable.
A search on the internet will reveal 1,000s of sites claiming to have the answers. Just because it is "on the web" does not make it legitimate or correct. Check references or customers before you buy anything.
Even banks with their fortress-like buildings, heavy steel doors and armed guards are no impervious to vandalism or theft. Almost every day, somewhere in America a bank is being held up. In some countries, private banks hire machine gun toting guards and post them at the front door to dissuade would be burglars or robbers. And, even they get shot up every so often and the bank gets robbed anyway.
Your concern should be in the following order:
Employees safety
Business property (real estate and product)
Vehicles and other items on the grounds
Depending on the severity of the vandalism, theft or breach of security, your company could suffer little operational damage or could be rendered incapable of business continuation... for a day, a week or more!
It is a black and white issue... like the skunks. Keep them out of your yard by making it undesirable is the best method.
